    Favorite set-up for Smallmouth

My favorite set-up for smallmouth bass is drifting with a single egg hook a small crawler and a single split shot. I like to just run your worm just over the tops of weeds in about 8 to 14 feet of water. You have to be careful to much drifting speed and you won't get your bait close enough to the cover. To large of a shot and you will be snaging weeds all day so there is a fine line with the right split shot size and drifting speed.  The best part about the set-up is that it's cheap, easy and very effective. This set-up is alot of fun on light tackle with about 6 lb test. What are any of your guys favorite bass set-ups? (For smallmouths or largemouths)

What about top water baits?  I have had some decent luck using small top water crank baits while river fishing.  The only thing that sucks about this kind of setup is that you can only work downstream from your position.  I would imagine with your setup you can work both upstream and downstream.

Not a big smallmouth fishermen, but I have had decent luck when I go out on my uncles boat.  Personally I like to drift either a shiner or a soft plastic bait on a light tackle setup.  While drifting I like to cast a fast paced lure like a Rapala or Rat-L-Trap.  Sometimes these lures have a tendency to pull out of the fishes mouth so I use these lures on a heavier tackle setup so that you can get a good hook set.  Largemouth usually you just have to find the right type of cover and cast a soft plastic worm or tube jig.

I'll second that CB.  You can't beat a nice 10mph wind pushing you along the weed lines with a whole crawler on light line for smallies.

This is beyond deadly at times in Lake St. Clair.
