On June 5, Adam Konrad of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, landed all-tackle world record rainbow trout that tipped the scales at 43.6 pounds. Konrad, 26, who was fishing with his identical twin brother, Sean, caught the monster in Lake Diefenbaker in Saskatchewan using a 4-inch Mepps Syclops while fishing from the shore. He was using six-pound-test line. The trout had a 34-inch girth.

i saw that article in the field and stream magazine and they said that, that trout was probably a "triploid - a trout that was genetically engineered to carry a third set of chromosones, making it sterile and prone to abnormal growth.  in 2000 nearly 500,000 were reported to have escaped from a nearby CanGro Fish Farm." 

i think that explains why the fish was 4.25" shorter then the previous record, but the girth was nearly 11" larger.

 All in all that is an awesome fish to catch especially on 6 pound line.

Are they still going to allow it to be the new word record?

they said that the IGFA allows triploids to be entered as records because the guy caught the fish fairly.
