Zip it! [:#] Always Know Your Yardage

So I ran into an incident last weekend that really got me thinking about picking about a range finder.  I had a nice doe come into my food plot at first light.  She was very uncomfortable at first but I let her settle down a little bit and had a nice broadside shot setup.  I drew back my bow and let an arrow fly only to have it miss clean about 4 inches below the doe's chest.  The foot plot was flooded due to some recent heavy rains so the splash of the arrow spooked the doe and she rocketed off.  After the morning hunt I went out to retrieve my arrow only to find that the yardage was slightly farther than I anticipated.  The shot was about 50 yards and I had estimate 40-45 yards.  You are probably thinking that 50 yards is a bit much but I would have had a nice double lung shot if I read the distance correctly.  To make matters worse I was hunting from a blind on property that I own Embarrassed .  It is a blind that I don't usually hunt out of so I have never really paid attention to the yardage at this particular location.  Oh well!  Thank god it wasn't a 150 class 12 pointer standing out there Bow and Arrow .

Does anyone own a range finder?  Anyone have any recommendations?

I have a Nikon Monarch Laser 800. I do quite a bit of rifle long distant shooting. I really like this range finder. Works good in low light, fog, and rain. No problems with it at all.  With unmatched 1/2 yrd accuracy. You might not need one that goes out to 800yds, but they do have one that is 400 or 440yds. (in black-under $200, Cammo model-just over $200). I think this would suit you better. Might be worth checking out!
