There has been a lot of talk about hunting feral pigs in Michigan.  There is a growing concern about the feral pig population in Michigan's upper lower peninsula.  Does anyone know about the mating and eat habits of feral pigs?  The Michigan DNR is encouraging all hunters to shoot feral pigs if they see them in the wild due to the negative impact the pigs have on the environment.  I am curious to see what type of hunting techniques can be used to hunt these pigs.  I am sure the classic bait pile technique will work just fine but I was wondering if you can call them in like predators or even hunt them at night over spot lights.  Since they are considered small game hunting the pigs at night is legal but I am not really sure what techniques would work best.  Any thoughts?

Hey Shadow, check out this link to the Michigan DNR web site.  It appears that there are free roaming feral pigs in over 20 counties in Michigan.  The Michigan DNR has been pretty adomate about telling hunters to kill feral pigs.  Apparenlty they not only destroy habitat and crops but also can carry various diseases.  I wonder how the guys down south handle hunting these beasts.  I am not sure if they are allowed to hunt pigs at night or not.  In Michigan they are fair game at night as long as you are using a rim fire rifle or a shotgun with #4 buck shot or smaller.

Here in TX they just come to our deer feeders. They also love apples. We hunt them year around with bow, shot gun, pistols, and riffles. They mate year around and can have up to two litters in a year. So if you see them shoot them. If they are 120 lbs or less they are not bad eating.

Hey Brad, do you have any night hunting tactics for pigs?  In Michigan we can predator hunt at night over spot lights and I always wanted to try and hunt pigs that way.  Although I have read that feral pigs are most active during the early morning and late evening.  It may not be worth trying ..

Just go out right before dark and toss out some corn and sit and wait. We have just bought some night vision scopes. Just waiting for this weather to get better. We are not able to get into the fields. It has rained at least 2 days per week for 6 weeks now.
