    Cold fronts

does anyone think that this cold front is affecting the fishing or is the fishing just terrible this year.  I've been out about 5 times and yet to have a good day for any species of fish

No, I do not think it matters ice fishing. I know several people who have done quite well in the last week with all of this extremely cold weather!

Where the hell are you ice fishing at?  The cold front is affecting the entire midwest.

Lake St. Clair, I talked to 5 different people that had a good weekend on ice fishing regardless of the temp. If your ice fishing doesn't it knida go without saying that it's cold outside? If we were talikng about bass fishing in june then I would agree that it matters.

    Re: Cold fronts

I would have to agree with CB.  While this extremely cold weather may affect the bite a little, people are still doing quite well out there.  I would suggest only fishing during the low light periods of the day (6am - 8am & 4:30pm-6:30pm).  These have been the most productive times for me this year. I wouldn't waste your time sitting out there all day especially in this weather.

Below are two posts from another ice fishing forum that visit frequently.  Both were posted just this morning.

    cotton rd

Went out in the cold yesterday and got our limit. Thank god for the heater! Had my best day yet! Morning bite was great but was pretty steady all day. Fished from 8-130. Caught probably 125 between 2 of us and left with 98. Caught 12 fish over 10 with 2 of them going 11 3/4". Water was clear in the morning aand got cloudy as the day went on. Got 3 gills to go with them with one real nice slab! Well worth the frozen walking in and out! Got some pics and should have them up by tonight!

    DNR ramp

went out with 6 guys from the ramp on jefferson and nailed the jumbos me and my bro kept 50 and about the same for the rest ofthe guys i found that they hit on a glow jig with a minnow and a spike on tip of hook .wind was bad but walk in hurt

    Re: Cold fronts

I went out the two weekends before the superbowl. Those Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, I maxed out or came close on Crappie, and Perch. But the weekend of the superbowl I went to a different place, off the back of my friends house on Lake St. Clair and caught nothing. It was cold, but i dont think that is why we did not catch any fish.

Holy Crappie! ich a big one!

    Re: Cold fronts

I think the barometric pressure (rising/falling) is a real important factor in trapping, hunting and fishing.

    Re: Cold fronts

I agree my best days hunting and fishing are almost always a high pressure day. That of course doesn't mean that it is warm out, many high pressure days in November are colder that hell but they are the best days to hunt all year.
