I recently aquired a rifle that was my father-in-laws and I am trying to figure out the make, model and caliber of the rifle. Unfortunately my father-in-law is no longer around to provide me information about the rifle. From what I can tell the rifle is at least 30 years old, it is bolt action (with an interesting ring on the back of the bolt/firing pin), and looks to be a 30 caliber (.308, 30-06, etc.). The barrel and receiver has a serial number that is readable but there is no manufacturer indicated on the gun. Does anyone know how to find out the make and model of the rifle. I did some searching on the web but haven't had too much luck. I can tell the rifle isn't something that i have seen before since the bolt and receiver setup is unique. I can probably get a picture of the rifle and post it.
